Arlene, new head of security

by Zoe McCracken

Security Guard Arlene Rancourt has been made head of security at MHS. She is replacing Eric Calvani, according to Principal Ken Schlaff.

As a result of “personnel issues” with Calvani, Code 3 called in Arlene to be the new security supervisor, Schlaff said. After her security service Parks Patrol went out of business from no longer working for MHS, she applied for a job with the new security service Code 3.

The security service change from Park Patrol to Code 3 took place after a bidding war. “The school board basically said we’re taking the lowest bidder,” Schlaff said. Since Code 3 offered cheaper services, the board decided to make the switch from Parks Patrol, Schlaff continued.

Once Code 3 was in service, the school made sure that the old security team’s experience remained in MHS. They did so by contacting Code 3 about security personnel, said Schlaff.

Schlaff recommended to Code 3 that Rancourt, who had been hired by Code 3 after the switch of security services, be assigned to MHS as a security guard. He pointed out that she had many years of experience working in MHS. “My discussion with [Code 3] may have influenced them to assign Arlene,” Schlaff said.

Since Rancourt has joined the security team at MHS, Code 3’s employed team is very similar to the previous security team under Park Patrol. “It’s a good meshing of both Park Patrol and Code 3,” Schlaff commented. “They’re doing pretty good.”

Arlene Rancourt also agrees that the new security team does not differ much from the previous one. “I don’t see really any difference,” Rancourt said. “A team is a team, it is what you make it.”

Despite the little difference between the two security services, Arlene does note that she misses some things. Arlene Rancourt comments that she misses working with her husband Former Security Guard Rodney “Scott” Rancourt.

Scott Rancourt was in charge of Park Patrol alongside his wife Arlene Rancourt. After Park Patrol went out of business, Scott Rancourt decided to use his time for his job in the VTA, said Arlene Rancourt. Meanwhile, Arlene remained in the security career.
Arlene Rancourt decided to apply to Code 3 and remain in the security business because she missed working at Milpitas High School. “I missed all you guys. I miss working with the students and staff.” Arlene Rancourt said.

Arlene may not be the only familiar face from last year’s security seen on campus soon. According to Arlene Rancourt, there is a possibility Scott Rancourt may join his wife in the security career again.

Code 3 had contacted Scott Rancourt about working for them, but things are not set in stone. “He is still in negotiations,” Arlene Rancourt said. “There is a possibility he may work some time if they can come to an agreement.”

Arlene Rancourt also noted that Scott misses all the students and staff, and keeps in touch by attending the home football games.

  1. Excellent article on Arlene. She is a real pro, and I'm sure she appreciates being noticed.

I like your on-line edition of The Union. It's a well-written, important publication. Kudos to all members of the staff.
